Constitution day in Spain

The 6th of December is a national holiday in Spain, celebrating the constitution of 1978.

A constitutional referendum was held in Spain on Wednesday, 6 December 1978, to gauge support for either the ratification or repealing of the Spanish Constitution which had been approved by the Cortes Generales on 31 October 1978.

The question asked was “Do you approve of the Constitution Bill?” The referendum resulted in 91.8% of votes in support of the bill on a turnout of 67.1%.

The new constitution replaced the laws of the Franco era, and turned Spain into a constitutional monarchy.

The feat of creating a democratic system without breaking the structures of power of the state was made possible by the approval of the Political Reform act of 1977. The law provided for the legalization of political parties and a democratic election to Constituent Cortes, a committee of which then drafted the Constitution.

The Galleon Andalusia is docked at Puerto de Mazarrón

The Galleon Andalusia is docked at Puerto de Mazarrón until the 1st of December and open for visits.

This is a unique replica of the legendary Spanish galleons, which for centuries united Spain with America and the Pacific. An imposing vessel of 55 meters in length, it made primarily from made from iroko wood and pine. The seven sails are good for an astonishing 930 m2 of surface.

The ship is an authentic floating museum of maritime culture and is visiting Puerto de Mazarrón as part of the great tour that is taking place this year through ports in Spain, France, Holland and Germany.

The Galleon crossed the Atlantic in 2013. to spend more than four years in the Americas and visited Santo Domingo, Puerto Rico, USA. and Canada,

During the stay in Mazarrón, guided tours are offered to groups and associations who wish to learn from the crew themselves, as well as the history and experiences of this exceptional vessel.

Restaurant Magoga awarded Michelin star

Gastronomic delight in the centre of Cartagena

Magoga restaurant in Cartagena has been recognized this week with a Michelin Star.

Although the restaurant has enjoyed a great reputation for many years, it is the first restaurant to be awarded a Michelin star in the historic port city. Chef Maria Gomez was runner up at the “Best revelation chef” awards at Madrid Fusion last January.

Magoga is the second restaurant in the region with a Michelin star. The other is restaurante Canaña Buenavista in Murcia city.

From the humble to the exquisite, the Region of Murcia is great to sample the typical foods of the Mediterranean.

Hacienda del Alamo hosts circuito Seve Ballesteros PGA tour 2019

PGA Spain confirms on their website that the renowned Circuito Seve Ballesteros PGA tour 2019 will be at Hacienda del Alamo Golf Resort from 12 to 14 December 2019.

Earlier tournaments of the 2019 tour were played at some of Spain’s foremost golf courses throughout Spain.

The Seve Ballesteros Foundation supports advances in cancer research and promotes golf and its values among children and young people, a shared objective with the PGA.

New Restaurant open at Hacienda del Alamo Golf Resort

Hacienda del Alamo Golf Resort keeps going from strength to strength with a new restaurant opening this past weekend. La Terraza Restaurant opened with a special set menu featuring several crowd-pleasers which serial restaurateur Darren Lovik is famous for in the region. Along with some great food, patrons enjoyed Peroni draft beer and a great selection of wine, including a fine Albariño from Martin Codax.

On Saturday 16 November the restaurant will feature a special greek menu with greek live music.
